Child's Play: Running A Summer Theatre Arts Program for Kids
Facilitated by Kathy Dorgan, Creative Theatre Experience ( Olympia, WA)
CTE was founded in 1981 and has been a destination for youth in the northwest to learn all aspects of the Performing Arts. The children of today are tomorrow’s actors and audience members. Leave this workshop with ideas for forming a summer program that parents and children will love. Learn how a program can grow and thrive, even through trying times
This will be Kathy's seventh summer with CTE, her sixth as Artistic Director. CTE has been giving youth opportunities in the Performing Arts for the past 27 years. The curriculum is designed by certificated teachers with advanced training and experience in both theater and education. Resources, materials, and classes are planned with young performers in mind and selected with an eye for what will be most effective and appropriate for students of various ages (5 to 21). As students return to the program and advance in skill and self confidence, they may take on greater leadership in the program. Youth mentor youth with the guidance and support of skilled adults. By day (during the school year) Kathy is the drama teacher at Olympia High School and has been involved with the theatre community in Olympia for a number of years. She has a B.F.A. in Theatre and an M.A.Ed. in administration from Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) and has taught acting and theatre classes for over 17 years. Kathy is committed to working in and promoting theatre arts whenever and wherever she finds opportunities.
